Are you in need of a blank page?… Or perhaps afraid of one?

A fresh start is one of life’s unique predicaments. It can be intimidating or exhilarating….or you may be vacillating between both emotions.

Loss, divorce, a new home, job or career provide a “blank page” for new creation in your life. As I write these words, I look up at the television and see Tom Hanks riding his raft into the sunset venturing out into the unknown, desperate for salvation, in the movie The Castaway. My husband is watching the movie while I am at the computer in the dining room writing this article.  It causes me to ask…

Are we adrift or are we on an adventure?  Where are we off to…?

This blank page can be productive whether we are still or moving and of course, hopefully we are never truly like Tom Hanks in Castaway.  Our hunger (our “Wilson” and our raft) is symbolic in our scenarios. This visual provides great clarity.  Let’s drift a bit, shall we?  Constant, forward momentum causes burnout leaving you longing for a fresh blank page.  Time to rest, recover, and rebuild is necessary in a full life. As for adventure, I suppose it just requires us to perceive our journey as such.

Is your blank page thrust upon you or are you wishing for a blank page, feeling hemmed in, full and cluttered, burdened and battled scarred? Are you crying on your homemade raft? (…As I see Tom Hanks doing when I look up again.)  Now the sun is up and Tom is waking  to a new day….and a big ship.

What is your ship?  What is the symbolic ship you are looking for? A job, a relationship, some time, a hobby, better health, purpose, meaning, a sign that you are going in the right direction?  Take some time to answer the following questions.

What is your blank page opportunity?

What will you do with this new emptiness?

What is your time frame for blankness, in other words, what is your expiration on the blankness?

Will your soul speak to this blank page?

What will it say?

Will you hear it?

Will you honor it?

Take out a piece of paper and give your answers space! Your beautiful, bountiful blank page awaits.
